Boy or Girl? Why We Wanted To Know!
September 25th was a pretty exciting day for the Vaughn family this year! Not only was it my birthday, but we found out our baby’s gender! Tobias is getting a little BROTHER!
We are so thrilled and so excited to see how these two will grow up as friends and be able to go on adventures together! Andrew and I were excited about the idea of having either a girl or another boy, but there’s something so thrilling and almost relieving about finding out one way or another!
- Prepare
I have friends who wait to find out until their baby is born and others who find out extra early! It’s nice we now have options in today’s world of technology! While Andrew and I have talked about possibly leaving it a surprise someday, there are definitely some reasons we have chosen this far to find out in advance!
We have most everything we need for a boy already, so there won’t be much preparation this go around with boy number 2! However, finding out the gender was helpful during my last pregnancy when we didn’t have ANY baby items and I needed to start building up our supply of clothes!
Although I realize that those who wait to find out their baby’s gender can go with gender neutral clothes, blankets, etc., there are inevitably those fun gender specific outfits that can be hard to pass up if you don’t know for sure! I also know that while some may wait to get clothes after baby is born and the gender is revealed, I personally don’t want to have the hassle of getting out and buying clothes while on maternity leave.
In other words, I not only find it more fun to know and prepare accordingly, but I also don’t want to spend time and energy on things I could’ve done before baby arrived.
2. Pray
I can’t tell you how helpful it has been knowing our baby’s gender! Now that we know we are expecting another little boy, the Lord has already been bringing to mind very specific things to pray for over this baby! Whether its specific prayers for a special brother relationship with Tobias or for his spiritual walk with the Lord as a man and future spiritual leader, it has made praying for him much more clear, specific and focused!
3. Bonding
It may sound strange to some, but finding out our baby’s gender has helped us feel much more connected and more aware of this baby’s personality! We now know how to refer to him when talking to others and we are able to prepare Tobias for another little boy to join our family! As this baby kicks and moves quite a bit, I’ve been preparing myself mentally for chasing after two very active little boys! 😉
We have really enjoyed knowing our baby’s gender within this last week as we can now better prepare mentally, pray specific and bond a little more with this BOY! Finding out may not be for everyone, but it sure has been a blessing to us!
Did you find out your baby’s gender or did you wait? I’d love to know!
