Hair Hacks for the Perfect Loose Braid
Braids are such a fun way to add variety to any look. They can be neat, messy, tight, loose, and can include all of your hair or just a little. Whether looking for something elegant, stylish, or simply needing your hair to stay out of your face, braids are the perfect “go-to”! I’ve used loose and flowy fishtails, a few cornrows on one side of my head, braids flowing into updos for formal looks, and braids to achieve heatless waves! I love to choose the perfect hairstyle depending on my mood, outfit, and the occasion!
Out of the many different options, one of my all time favorites is the loose side braid! Someday soon I will post a step-by-step tutorial for this look but for now I’ll simply leave you with some tricks to getting the loosened sections just right!
So, what is one of my secrets? Hairspray! (So simple, right?!)
Personally I am not a fan of the stuff! I dislike the restricting, dry, and light crunchy feeling it can leave (depending on the brand and strength of hold). However, as a stylist I realize and admit it’s a game changer!
For my braids I like to use something that is not too heavy and definitely something that mists more than sprays. (My all time favorite is Vita/e by LAMAUR.) (*Affiliate link)
Depending on how fine or silky your hair is, adding some type of product (hairspray or dry shampoo for example) to your hair before starting your braid can help when gathering sections and help keep things intact.
After I am finished with my braid, I lightly mist some hairspray over it before gently pulling at it to enlarge and loosen it! The hairspray adds a little more grip and control when loosening your braid which can help prevent fly aways from taking flight, over loosening sections, or pieces from slipping more than you’d like!
For a little extra hold, feel free to mist your whole hairstyle and tuck any unwanted pieces out of sight!
Ta-da!! You are left with a loose but more secure braid!
