Storing Outgrown Baby Clothes
If you are a mom then you know just how many baby clothes you can go through in your baby’s first year. Before becoming a parent, I did not realize how many sizes even existed for the first year of life! Every time I questioned the large amount of clothes that I had for such a tiny human, I’d quickly be reminded of how necessary it is when my son would have another blow out or spit up all over his third outfit of the day. So despite my thoughts of downsizing and giving many of his clothes away and living more minimally, I caved to the realization that more outfits=less days doing laundry which =easier life!
That is, “easier” till it came time to pack those cute little clothes away for the next baby! Organizing and sorting my son’s clothes has been on my to do list for quite a while. In fact, I have pulled out the two large tubs packed with clothes more than once to get it done, but have avoided it due to being overwhelmed by the task and the time needed to accomplish it!

This past week I decided it NEEDED to happen. Instead of unpacking them in the living room and on the couches like I had planned to do, I brought them into our guest bedroom and and dumped the first box onto the bed. (I should taken a picture!) I then separated the clothes into piles by size and had an empty box beside me for clothes to give away or donate. After I was sure I had found all the newborn clothes that I wanted to keep, I wrote the size at the top of a 2-gallon size ziploc bag and tightly sealed the clothes inside. I continued this for all the sizes and clothes my son had outgrown.
This system worked surprisingly well! I was able to leave the big pile in the guest bedroom and close the door once my son woke up from his nap and it was easy to find where I left off (the 6 month pile for example) once I returned to finish!
After I was done filling the storage boxes with the tightly sealed bags, I found that it was easy to see the sizes without having to pull the ziplock bags out of the boxes! I finished by labeling the storage boxes themselves with the range of sizes.
The idea of this storage method is that when we have another baby in the future, I can find the storage box and simply pull out the sizes that I need instead of digging through loose clothes. In the long run, it should save me time, hassle and the frustration of looking through a bunch of sizes!
Getting this task done was such a relief and I’m excited to see how easy it will be in the future to pull out the sizes we need at the moment!
How do you organize and store your baby clothes? Do you have any tips or tricks to share?
Let me know if you try this method and if it works for you!
