5 Fast Ways to a Tidy Home
If you were to ask a group of people to raise their hand if they like having a tidy and neat home, I’m sure nearly every hand would go up! But if you ask them whether their home is always up to their hopeful expectations the response may be a little different! Let’s face it. Despite our best intentions our homes may not always look like those we see on social media or HGTV. Or if you are like me, it NEVER looks as good as I would like.
There are so many benefits to keeping your house tidy! Your home is (nearly) “guest ready” without any last minute stress, you can relax better when you feel comfortable in your home, you can find things faster (am I the only one to loose my mind in a cluttered house?) and lastly, the mom side of me immediately considers all the things my baby can’t get into! 😉 On top of all those reasons, I know that I personally feel so much more prepared for the day and am much more productive! I realize there will always be cleaning to do and no one expects a perfect house, but we all have those times where we simply don’t have enough time to do everything and have to choose where to start! So here are my 5 fool proof ways to keep your home looking a little easier on the eyes!!
1. Clear off your fridge! I’m going to start with this one since I did it last night and the results blew me away! It had been a while since I had cleared our fridge of the usual clutter. I still had a couple outdated invitations, several family pictures, reminders, bills, and random magnets strewn all over the front. No matter how much I loved the family photos or how convenient it may be to stick the next bill where I’m sure to see it, the fridge is not the best solution! By simply removing the random array of items, it not only made our fridge look so much newer and cleaner, but also our entire kitchen!
2. Remove dishes from your sink! I feel like this is second nature to some people while others sometimes let the dishes collect a little before doing them all at once. Whatever your routine may be, keep in mind that a clear and empty sink always makes a kitchen look much more neat and satisfactory.
3. Simplify Countertops! If you haven’t noticed already, the tips so far have been for the kitchen. The kitchen is such a central part of the house! It involves much of the hosting, eating, and sometimes even social time can be held where the cooking and baking take place! It’s no wonder that the kitchen holds so much control when it comes to making your house look better! With that being said, keeping the counters simple and clear can not only make your kitchen more open, but also neat and inviting as well!
4. Declutter Shelves! There is a fine line between decorations lining your shelves and what appears to be clutter instead. Keep in mind that its okay to have a little empty space! Don’t overcrowd counters, shelves, tables, etc. and keep it the same “theme”. It will be much easier to “take in” as people admire your beautiful house!
5. Use Storage Bins! My friends, these little bins have been so helpful! I have used these storage bins in the nursery closet to organize shoes, sheets, and toys. My sweet husband made shelves so these bins sit perfectly above where the clothes hang. After seeing how easy they make it to be organized, I have decided to use them in our entertainment center now too! Andrew made our entertainment center last year and we have loved it. However, we are finding it is not exactly baby proof and one of our son’s biggest hobbies right now is flinging DVD’s around the movie room (the shelves are open)! After discovering that the same bins we have had in the nursery fit perfectly on the entertainment center’s shelves, we decided to store all our DVD’s, remotes, children’s books, and Tobias’ toys in separate bins! These bins have been a life saver for this mamma! They are helping to keep toys, books, and movies off the floor, organized, and out of sight!!
If I were to condense the gist of this post into a few words I’d use the phrase “less is more” and it’s so true! The LESS clutter, notes, bills, or toys that are out in the open or showing, the MORE tidy my home looks!
With that being said, excuse me as I go clear my kitchen island and do some dishes! 😉
I hope this has given you some new ideas or even some encouragement that you’re not doing half bad after all! What are some of your house keeping go-to’s? I’d love to hear!
Thanks for dropping by!
